2019 Skills Labs

The objective of the skills lab required class attendance is to physically perform the skills to become familiar with the techniques. Competence is developed after performing many of these in clinical experiences (often need to do 5-15 for credentialing purpose). Please review the procedures so you can go right into performance. There will be no lectures, and you will be tested on ALL skills on Exam 1.

Procedures:

  • Central line insertion
  • Paracentesis
  • Chest tube insertion
  • Incision and Drain  (August skills lab)
  • Punch Biopsy (August skills lab)
  • Incision and Drainage (August skills lab)
  • Suturing (August skills lab)
  • EKG (August skills lab you will get an introduction)
  • Radiology (August skills lab)
  • Endotracheal intubation and airway
  • Lumbar Puncture
  • Arterial Line insertion
  • Easy IO

In Immersion 1, you will be joining other track students to learn and perform common skills. The second Immersion skills lab will be limited to acute care track only. You will go to all of the skill stations and perform the skill. The faculty will sign at each station as you complete. You will turn in your Skills sheet with signatures at the end of the class. I anticipate it taking the full time so plan accordingly. However, when you have completed all stations you can turn in your sheet and leave.

I look forward to seeing you in Immersion 1 in the College of Nursing 4th floor simulation center.
