Creating Instructional Content

Creating Instructional Content

Lectures, readings, media, and other instructional content can all be distributed through Canvas, making it a great central location for your course materials.

On this page, we'll look at how to create a page in Canvas, which can be used to share out content, followed by exploring the Rich Content Editor, which allows you to insert and format that content. We'll then finish by looking at how you can create recorded lecture content via a tool called YuJa Media.

Creating Pages

Pages are where you can house instructional content and other materials you want students to view. Using the Rich Content Editor (discussed next), you can add text, images, media, files, and links to a page.

Using the Rich Content Editor

The Rich Content Editor is available almost everywhere you would type content in Canvas, including pages, quizzes, assignments, and discussions. You can use the Rich Content Editor to format text, insert media, and link to other areas of Canvas or external sites.

Important Tip: Use the  Accessibility Checker to make sure your content is ready for all your students.

Recording Lectures with YuJa

YuJa Media is a video management solution that stores media, allows for software capture (screencasting), and in-video quizzing. YuJa is a great platform to record lecture content, whether that be a voice-over slide presentation, a demonstration, or a mixture of both. The following videos walk through how to add YuJa Media to your course, record lecture content, and edit recorded videos.
