What training sessions outside the college are available?

How do I test my internet speed?

From the computer you plan to use for interacting with students or course content, visit https://www.speedtest.net/, Links to an external site. select the 'GO' button at the center of the screen and view the results. Good results should be above 25mb download and 5mb upload. Ideal results are above 50mb download and 10mb upload.

Should I teach a live remote class or prepare a video in advance?

This depends on a few things. First, is your Canvas shell ready and published for your current course? Second, do you have a PowerPoint or other material available that you need to show students as a part of your lecture? If you answered yes to both of these questions they you may consider creating a video lecture using PowerPoint's built-in screen capture tool. If you require live interaction with your students, or do not have material to lecture from then you should consider using Zoom Web Conferencing to lecture your students live.

Do I need a webcam?

In general, having a webcam is a good idea. If you plan to live lecture with your students then a webcam is a necessity. A webcam capable of 720p (high definition) or better is ideal. 

Do I need a headset?

Yes, you will need a headset for either live lecture or for creating pre-recorded video content. However, you may also use the built-in microphone from your webcam or laptop. We can provide a headset if needed. Email GattonFromHome@uky.edu for additional information.

How do I use Zoom video conferencing to meet with students?

How do I access my OneDrive account from home?

OneDrive is a simple software you can download and install on your computer or mobile device. Learn more about OneDrive and other cloud software storage solutions here: https://uk.instructure.com/courses/1986205/pages/file-storage-and-access

What is VPN and why do I need it?

VPN (virtual private network) allows you to login from anywhere in the world to the UK Campus local network. The benefit is gaining access to the network drive and even printers here on campus.
