Network Drives
If you have files stored on the university network (Z drive) you will need VPN access. Please refer to these pages on how to request and setup VPN on your computer
To access those files, you will need to connect to VPN then connect to the mapped network drive. Below you will find instructions on how to accomplish this task.
How to Map a network drive on PC
Windows 10 and Windows 11
Map a network drive to get to it from File Explorer in Windows without having to look for it or type its network address each time.

1. Open File Explorer from the taskbar or the Start menu, or press the Windows logo key + E.

2. Select This PC from the left pane. Then, on the Computer tab, select Map network drive.

3. In the Drive list, select a drive letter. (Any available letter will do.)

4. In the Folder box

To connect every time you log on to your PC, select the Reconnect at sign-in check box.

5. Select Finish.
- Note: If you can't connect to a network drive or folder, the computer you're trying to connect to might be turned off, or you might not have the correct permissions. Try contacting your network administrator.
Windows 7
Map a network drive to get to it from Computer or Windows Explorer without having to look for it or type its network address each time.

1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button and then clicking Computer.

2. Click Map Network Drive.

3. In the Drive list, click any available drive letter.

4. In the Folder box,
To connect every time you log on to your computer, select the Reconnect at logon check box.

How to Map a network drive on a Mac
Mac OS X's straightforward approach makes connecting to a network drive easy. Start by opening Finder and selecting the Go dropdown. Under Go, there is an option called Connect to Server.
After selecting this, you should get a pop-up window where you can enter the network device’s address. Be sure to enter “smb://” before the address. You can specify the drive as a whole, or a specific folder within the drive (e.g., My Documents, Shared Files, etc.).

For Staff: smb://gatton1.ad.uky.edu/Home/Staff/
Pressing the “+” will add the network drive to your Favorite Servers list. Select the address you just entered and press Connect. You’ll get a connection window like so,
Use your UKY linkblue user ID and password to login into the network drive when prompted.
