WRD 110-008: Comp and Comm I (Spring 2022)
As a foundational course in the UK Core, Composition and Communication I focuses on critical inquiry and research to help you refine your speaking and writing skills and prime you for a successful academic career at the University of Kentucky. This class, at its core, should prepare you to make credible and effective arguments regardless of whether you are speaking in class, presenting lab results, or writing a capstone report for your major. Throughout the semester, I will encourage you to build on the communication skills you have and develop effective rhetorical arguments on a variety of issues. To do this, you will conduct in-depth research and learn how to communicate effectively to a broader audience through a variety of modalities (written, spoken, visual, etc.). Over the course of the semester, class members can expect to work independently, with a partner, or with a small group of classmates to investigate, share findings, and craft arguments, as well as to practice and evaluate interpersonal and small group dynamics in a collegiate setting. And through this, you should develop a greater appreciation for the rhetorical theory, academic genres, and communicative skills at the center of our course.
