This course –Composition and Communication – is a course designed to help you develop the higher-level communication skills necessary for academic (and professional) success – the ability to write cogently, speak authoritatively, and present your ideas visually. To foster these skills, we will focus on critical inquiry, research, interpersonal communication, and rhetorical engagement as the foundation of effective composition and communication. These being the foundational elements of effective rhetoric and productive communication of all kinds. Throughout this semester, we will explore issues of common concern using critical analysis, join the public conversation about these topics, and ultimately propose well-articulated solutions for how to resolve these debates. And after this semester, you should leave the course a more confident and effective communicator (and writer).

WRD 112: Recreational Rhetorics (Fall '23)
This course (Advanced Composition and Communication) is an accelerated course designed to help you develop the higher-level communication skills necessary for academic (and professional) success – the ability to write cogently, speak authoritatively, and present your ideas visually. To foster these skills, we will focus on critical inquiry, research, interpersonal communication, and rhetorical engagement as the foundation of effective composition and communication. And, hopefully, you will leave the course a more confident and effective communicator (and writer). In this section of WRD 112, we will step away from the purely academic concerns of most essays/presentations and consider the broader appeal of effective communication beyond the limited demands of your academic career. In other words, we will explore how we inform, persuade and argue with skeptical audiences about even seemingly trivial issues – your hobbies, fandoms and pastimes.
