Keeping a design notebook is a critical part of the design process.  In some companies a paper notebook is still used as a part of project documentation.  Electronic alternatives exist but have not become standardized.  The notebook shown for the class is larger than an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper so that paper can also be taped into the notebook.
