Health promotion and prevention

INTRODUCTION

This module covers several aspects of health promotion and disease prevention in our acute care population. In the Barkley readings there are a lot of facts to put into context of our population. Safety section has some key players of The Joint Commission goals and AHRQ news and never events. SBAR is an approach to communications that is now commonly used. Miscommunication is a major safety hazard so knowing effective communication techniques is important. Our acutely ill patients have special needs that we must manage. Over 30% of the USA citizens practice some form of complementary and/or alternative medicine that may help or interfere in your treatment so having an understanding in this area is also important. So do the readings and watch the video. The exam on this content will be online.
