Welcome!
11/6/2018 Congrat class. You have successfully completed NUR980. Now you can focus completely on the rest of your courses. The University does not permit us to post grades until the end of the semester but your total score is posted under grades so you will know what I will be entering. I look forward to continuing to work with you through the remainder of your program.

11/2/18 Monday is the EKG exam, the last requirement in this course. It has been great working together. I look forward to continuing to work together in the future.
10/23/18 Congratulations on Exam 2. The range was 74-98. The drug dose conversion was the question that more of you need further review. Now moving on to exam 3, the EKG. That will then complete this course. Remember that on exam 3 you must make at least 80% or you must remediate. You really must be able to read 12 lead EKGs and understand pathophysiology. The group has done well in this course. I look forward to continuing to work together in your program at UK.

Just checking in with you. I know you have been going through the next module about gerontology, pain, and opioid management. As before, we have a discussion board over the module. I will open up that discussion board for you Oct 1 so you have a couple of weeks to find answers to your assigned questions. You may go ahead and do your initial post but do not do the responses until the week assigned.

Congratulations on your discussion board postings. Everyone got full credit. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and generally the facts were accurate. There are a few points I want to make regarding facts:
- The 2025 date for all NP programs to be at the DNP level is an academic goal; a way of helping the profession move forward. There are many NPs who were prepared at the MSN level and they will be practicing along side the nurse with the DNP. At some point where there is competition for positions, all other things being equal, then the DNP may have an advantage. In other words, 2025 is not a goal for all NPs practicing to have a DNP, that is not feasible at the very least. What will the future hold? Who knows.
- The elevator definitions of AGACNP need to be much shorter. Try 3 short sentences. Elevators move fast and the attention of the asker may also be short.
- As all of you said, the AGACNP and FNP roles are NOT setting specific, but population specific. In some of your discussions, you would say that and then say the AGACNP works in the hospital- so that is not totally accurate.
- The 5 year study you need to reread.
The Exam 1 is available for 24 hours on Monday September 10th on canvas. There are a number of short answer as well as true/false, etc. I will grade them ASAP but know that you will not know for sure your grade upon completing it.
The next module we move into the topics of Gerontology and the topic of pain. This is called Adult-Gerontology ACNP so we have some concentrated content on Gero in this course but of course there is gero content in the future courses as well. Naturally with pain we cover a number of things but certainly opioid issues. This module also has a discussion board and now you all know how this goes.
The final module is 12 lead EKGs. That module has been up since we opened the course and for that one you will need to have/access to the book. That is the only exam in this course where a grade of at least 80% is required, and remediation would occur until that competency is reached.
Have a great weekend. You are off to a great start.

Welcome to NUR 980. This is a 1 credit online course designed for AG-ACNP certification students who already hold a nurse practitioner certification in another field. This expands your understanding of the role and issues/trends of an AG-ACNP, Additionally it builds competence in the areas of geriatric care and opioid disorder management, as well as 12 lead EKG interpretation.
There is 1 book you will need to acquire on 12 lead EKG but the other materials are online with free access to you as a student at UK. (See syllabus for details.) There will be 3 Exams and 2 Discussion Board exercises.
The Department of Education requires that the College of Nursing document student participation in courses for all students who accept Federal Student Aid awards. Participation in this course will documented the week of August 29 to September 5 by taking the quiz called Read Syllabus. Students receiving Federal Student aid who are marked as not participating/attending will be dropped from the class and held responsible for 50% of the tuition if they drop below full time status.
I will be your course professor. I was one of the first 100 nurses to be certified as an ACNP and have 22 years of experience in the field. I also have been certified as an FNP for the same length of time so have some concept of your upcoming journey to add another certification. I look forward to working together in this course.
Email is the most efficient way to reach me. I will be glad to talk with you, but with our mutual schedules, generally making an appointment for phone or face to face works best. carol.thompson1@uky.edu
