Welcome!
3/19/2019: Reminder, Exam 3 on EKGs is this Thursday. Let me know if you have questions.
2/22/19: Congratulations on Exam 2. Just one more exam and you have successfully completed this course. That exam is on 12 lead EKGs. Of course there will be pictures of 12 leads as well as the usual format of questions so if you need to beef up your interpretation skills there are lots of practice opportunities on the web. You are doing great!!
2/20/19: Nice job on discussion board. Thursday is the next exam. I believe you have done some good work in preparation for it.
2/12/19: Excellent start to discussion board. I will continue to follow your discussions.
1/31/2019: Congratulations. You all did well on exam 1. Two folks even got perfect scores. The one area I would recommend you review again is the AACN Scope and Standards. Your elevator descriptions are coming right along. It will be interesting to see if there is any revision by the end of the course - or end of the program. Pat yourselves on the back and then move on to the next modules.
1/28/19 - Tomorrow is Exam 1. There are short essay, multiple choice, and true-false type of questions. Because I will be hand grading the essay questions you will not know your final grade until I have had a chance to grade them. The next assignment materials are now posted for the course. In the next module you get into the Geriatric and pain content. There is an extensive section on opioids so plan some time on that part. Discussion board assignment is also going to open February 1st (Friday) and the initial post can be done but I ask that no 1st or 2nd response occur until the week assigned for the discussion board (Feb 11-15th).
1/25/19 - Great job on discussion board. There are a few areas that did not come up that I want to be sure you remember for the exam: List the standards, List consensus population foci, list the 3 areas the Leading DNP Professional would provide services. The NONPF competencies document lists the age relevant for AG-ACNP as late adolescent to old-old age. It never included life span. On elevator definitions think about 3 short sentences.
------------
Welcome to NUR 980. This is a 1 credit totally online course designed for AG-ACNP certification students who already hold a nurse practitioner certification in another field. This expands your understanding of the role and issues/trends of an AG-ACNP, Additionally it builds competence in the areas of geriatric care and opioid disorder management, as well as 12 lead EKG interpretation.
There is 1 book you will need to acquire on 12 lead EKG but the other materials are online with free access to you as a student at UK. (See syllabus for details.) There will be 3 Exams and 2 Discussion Board exercises.
The Department of Education requires that the College of Nursing document student participation in courses for all students who accept Federal Student Aid awards. Participation in this course will documented the week of January 16th to 22nd, 2019 by taking the quiz called Read Syllabus. Students receiving Federal Student aid who are marked as not participating/attending will be dropped from the class and held responsible for 50% of the tuition if they drop below full time status.
I will be your course professor. I was one of the first 100 nurses to be certified as an ACNP and have 22 years of experience in the field. I also have been certified as an FNP for the same length of time so have some concept of your upcoming journey to add another certification. I look forward to working together in this course.
Email is the most efficient way to reach me. I will be glad to talk with you, but with our mutual schedules, generally making an appointment for phone or face to face works best. carol.thompson1@uky.edu
