NUR940-201: Ag Acnp: Roles, Issues And Health Prom (Spring 2019)

Home Page

Welcome!

4/15/2019 Wednesday class starts at 8am in room 502A in the college of nursing. The plan is in the morning we will be applying the content from the course - so role, giving bad news, documentation, etc. In the afternoon we will be doing some practice of doing physicals for a patient in a bed. There are some tricks I want to show you that are specific to this situation. You will be doing exams on each other so please come wearing shorts and loose top for abdominal exams. Also bring stethoscope, reflex hammer, opthalmoscope if you have it. We will also be discussing your first AGACNP clinical experience and getting you reading for that next step. This is an exciting time. I look forward to seeing you again.

3/29/2019 Congrats on your last exam. Two questions were dropped. There also was a little technical issue that labeled all exams as late. No one was late so no worries there. While on campus we will be reinforcing some content that the class seemed less confident. Remember the goal of this course is to get you ready for your first AGACNP clinical. Of course there will be some new stuff while on campus but there is no additional content for you to review. The next thing on your to-do-list is the paper. Let me know if you have questions about that assignment. I am excited to get to see you on campus.

3/10/2019 I have updated the health promotion module so you have the latest on recommendations and statistics. The power point has a little out dated information but generally is good so I kept that assignment.

3/9/2019 Exam 3 is graded. I did drop one question due to confusion on block size. Most of you are ready to go into clinical with your EKG knowledge. However if you did not at least score 80, remediation is required. Contact me to establish a plan for successful remediation.

3/7/2019 The Modules Approach acutely ill adult and Health Promotion/Prevention for Exam 4 are now posted. The exam template is

6 Fast Hug

6 Giving Bad News

4 Transition of care

12 History and Physical

9 Writing orders/Documentation

4 Consults

3 Special Needs/CAM/Safety

2 Hospital responsibilities

----------------------

3/5/2019 Exam 3 is Thursday and available all that day. I have set the time limit to 2 hours but do not anticipate you will need all of that time.

2/17/2019 Congratulations. Everyone passed exam 2. The class has a good understanding of pathyophysiology and some common pain and delirium management. The term substance use disorder is the preferred term. I suggest a review of converting from one narcotic to another.  Now move on to the EKG module.

2/15/19 9:40am Exam 2 is extended to Saturday due to confusion on the calendar on syllabus. All of the material you have had access to is on the exam. Sorry for the confusion.

2/14/19: Tomorrow is Exam 2. The template provided is accurate. To clarify it does include the opioid module, pain, etc. In fact one question you will be calculating conversion from one opioid to another. There are 50 questions of the same nature as on exam 1. This is a timed exam of 90 minutes. Be sure to pay attention to the time. You can do this!

1/31/2019: Exam 1 is graded. Those with lower scores tended to have some questions unanswered. This is a timed exam so be sure in the future to keep that in mind. I would recommend that you review the AACN Scope and Standards very specifically. Also using 2 hands when deliver the business card is pretty specific to oriental interactions. The AG-ACNP is population specific but not setting specific. You all got the first question right so off to a good start. Your elevator definitions are coming along. You will keep revising them all of your career. Congratulations you have completed the first exam. Now move on to the next modules.

1/28/2019: The next module is posted. There is a heavy section on opioids, in fact has a separate module just for that. However this is the module where the gerontology content specifically is addressed. I checked all the links but if you run into difficulty, let me know ASAP. Tomorrow is Exam 1 so wanted to have your next assignment posted for you.

1/22/2019:  See Module on Billing and Coding for tomorrow's class.

1/15/2019: Class on campus will include Billing and Coding class along with Primary care NP students Wednesday January 23rd 8 -12 in room 613C. The afternoon we will be room501B 1-5pm and it us just our group. We will be having some debates so be sure you have read all of Module 1 in preparation for the class.

Welcome to NUR940. This is the first of your didactic courses specific to the AGACNP specialty. During this course you will learn about the role, issues, billing and coding, how to document a history and physical in the acute care setting, and how to write orders. Additionally there will be preparing for your first clinical in the AGACNP specialty

Let's Get Started

Look at the syllabus for dates of exams. Download NUR 940 Spring 2019.docx

You will need to purchase or borrow from someone the 12 lead EKG text. The other materials will be available on line. You will be on campus for class January 23rd  and April 17th. Attendance is required. Immersion is January 23-25th and April 17-19th

The Department of Education requires that the College of Nursing document student participation in courses for all students who accept Federal Student Aid awards. Participation in this course will be documented the week of January 16th to 22nd, 2019 by taking the quiz called Read Syllabus. Students receiving Federal Student aid who are marked as not participating/attending will be dropped from the class and held responsible for 50% of the tuition if they drop below full time status.
