Course Description

The course provides an overview of world trade, international monetary and trade theory, and exchange rate determination theory. The focus is on the management of short- and long-term international assets, with particular attention given to direct investment decisions and financing of international operations. Prereq: ACC 302 and a grade of C or better in FIN 405.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student will understand what it means for a currency to appreciate or depreciate and will be able to calculate the effect on a company’s revenues, costs, or profits. In addition, the student will understand how companies hedge this currency risk using standard financial instruments.

Required Materials

No textbook will be required, but you may find Eun and Resnick's International Financial Management helpful.

You will need the Turning Point (clicker) app on your phone or a physical clicker.

Activities and Assignments

Each class will have at least one “clicker” question; usually, there will be more. Each question will be worth 3 points for a correct answer and 1 point for an incorrect answer. You need a total of 270 points (out of 300 possible) to get full credit for the clicker questions.

In addition, there will be 4 online quizzes and two mid-term exams.

Course Grading

Your course grade will be determined in the following manner

In-class “clicker” questions  – 10%

Online Quizzes                       – 20%

Mid-term Exams                    – 40%

Final Exam                             – 30%

I will not “round up” your grade, nor is there “extra credit” beyond the participation points. If you get an 89 for the semester, you will be assigned a B for the class.

The following scale will be used to determine final grades:

  • 90 – 100% = A
  • 80 – 89% = B
  • 70 – 79% = C
  • 60 – 69% = D
  • Below 60% = E

Mid-term Grade

Mid-term grades will be posted in myUK by the deadline established in the Academic Calendar.
